Details

Odor control is a critical aspect of wastewater management that helps reduce unpleasant smells emanating from the treatment process. Activated carbon is a highly effective solution for absorbing and trapping odors in wastewater. It is effective in removing a diverse range of odor-causing compounds, including volatile organic compounds, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia, making it an ideal solution for facilities with varying odors to control.

ParkUSA’s OdorTrooper™ activated carbon systems are highly effective and versatile odor control solutions for wastewater management. A simple system can include an attached canister of activated carbon or a more complex system may employ ventilation to move air through an activated carbon scrubber.

How It Works

Activated carbon systems control odor from wastewater systems by absorbing and trapping odor-causing compounds. In a simple system, a canister filled with activated carbon material is attached to the vent of the wastewater tank. As the wastewater tank releases gas, the gas flows through the canister, and the activated carbon absorbs and traps the odorous compounds.

In a more complex system, ventilation move air through an activated carbon scrubber. The scrubber typically consists of a large container filled with activated carbon pellets or beads. The wastewater gas flows through the container, and the activated carbon adsorbs and traps the odorous compounds.

ParkUSA activated carbon systems are tailored to the specific needs of the wastewater treatment process or facility. System capacity is based on the specific needs of the facility, the type and concentration of the odors being generated, and the volume of gas being treated.

About the Direct Bury Precast Odor Control System

At the core of the system is a robust precast concrete vault that accommodates an activated carbon treatment setup, including a replaceable carbon drum on a rail system for easy maintenance when the carbon is spent. It also features an inlet for venting gases, a check valve to ensure one-way flow, and an outlet for releasing treated air. Designed for direct burial, the unit comes with a flat top equipped with an access hatchway and a retractable safety net, as well as an access ladder, ensuring secure and convenient maintenance access.

Applications

Most environments that are treating commercial, industrial, or municipal waste or wastewater can benefit from a wastewater odor control system. Odor control solutions improve the overall quality of life, and community relations, in the surrounding areas.

Wastewater Lift Stations

Pump lift stations can produce strong odors that can be unpleasant for nearby residents and businesses. Effective odor control solutions can help reduce these odors and protect public health.

Wastewater Treatment Facilities

In wastewater treatment facilities, many processes produce odors that can be harmful and unpleasant for nearby communities.

Landfills

Landfills produce methane and other gases that can be harmful and unpleasant to nearby residents. Odor control solutions can help reduce these odors and improve the overall quality of life.

Agricultural Operations

Agricultural operations, such as livestock operations and food processing plants, can produce strong odors that can be unpleasant for nearby residents.

Municipal Waste Handling Facilities

Municipal waste handling facilities can produce strong odors from trash and waste.

Grease Interceptors

Odor control systems can be effective in controlling odors from grease interceptors. The activated carbon material is highly porous and has a large surface area, allowing it to adsorb and trap odor-causing compounds, including those found in FOG.
